May 21–23, 2025 – The Spring Meeting of The Fiber Society Held Grandly at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The Fiber Society is a non-profit professional and scientific association dedicated to the advancement of knowledge related to fibers, fiber products, and fiber materials. It consistently holds two international conferences annually. This spring’s meeting was themed “Future Fibers for Wellbeing, Intelligence, and Sustainability,” aiming to deepen fiber innovation science and application transformation, injecting new momentum for achieving a smarter, healthier, and more sustainable future.
Shenzhen Esun Industrial Co., Ltd. (brand “eSUN”) was invited to participate in the conference and delivered a keynote presentation titled “Functional Synergy and Textile Innovation of PLA Fiber Blended with Wool.”

PLA Fiber and its nonwoven fabrics integrate the advantages of natural and synthetic fibers. With a weak acidity close to that of human skin, PLA Fiber is naturally skin-friendly, antibacterial, anti-mite, anti-allergic, and features excellent moisture permeability, smoothness, and breathability, with a glossy appearance. In addition, textile products made from PLA Fiber possess self-extinguishing properties, providing a high level of safety during use.

In the context of sustainable development, PLA Fiber significantly reduces carbon footprint compared to traditional petroleum-based materials. According to the latest LCA data, the global warming potential (GWP) of PLA is approximately 0.6 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg, representing a reduction of about 73% in carbon footprint compared to typical fossil-based polymers such as PET, ABS, and Nylon 6.

PLA Fiber and its nonwoven fabrics can be widely applied in industries such as sanitary materials, apparel fabrics, home textiles, toy stuffing, and medical supplies.
By exploring advanced composite materials and blending PLA Fiber with cotton, flax, silk, wool, or other bio-based fibers, multifunctional properties can be achieved for related applications. Suzhou eSUN focuses on application development involving material combinations such as “PLA Fiber + Viscose,” “PLA Fiber + Cotton,” and “PLA Fiber + Wool.” PLA Fiber is characterized by three major functions: skin beautification and protection, antibacterial and deodorizing, and moisture-wicking and quick-drying, offering an enhanced user experience overall.

Taking the application of PLA Fiber blended with wool as an example, PLA Fiber is skin-friendly and breathable with excellent antibacterial and anti-mite properties. When blended with wool, cashmere, and similar materials, the resulting fabrics combine the softness and warmth of wool with the lightness and quick-drying properties of PLA Fiber. The result is not only environmentally friendly and comfortable but also antibacterial, anti-mite, and anti-allergic—particularly suitable for close-fitting clothing products such as wool sweaters and knitwear.

Moreover, blending PLA Fiber with wool can make garments more structured. This advantage becomes especially prominent when applied to suit fabrics or oversized outerwear. Blending also allows for maintaining fabric performance while reducing reliance on costly wool, thereby controlling production costs.

As the concept of sustainable development gains increasing traction, the textile industry is actively seeking a fusion of environmental protection and functionality. PLA Fiber boasts unique performance advantages and compatibility with a wide range of fiber materials for blending, making it highly promising for future development.
